I uploaded a few of the files since the original link was taken down:

Shoot me an email if you have any questions getting it going. I had extracted a whole lot of shp files into lat/lng and needed it reduced considerably before rendering into google maps.

Just a quick note: if you have the stats extension installed you can replace the pnormaldist() function with a call to the built-in function stats_cdf_normal($power, 0, 1, 2).

In my tests it has proven to be slightly more accurate than the pnormaldist() implementation.

I mean caching column meta on server using apc memory functions: apc_store and apc_fetch. That's what I'm doing in my "Active RecordLite" slimmed down version of your Active Record.

Hi, it's interesting to know more about your system, what Drupal version your'e using is it d5 / d6? etc... but I guess you have the cutting edge. Speaking of Rails, it would be also interesting to read your comparison post when you migrate. Plus the migration costs. I mean - headaches. Maybe it's better to go over the TODO's? I myself come from the `Rails world` and can't agree more about the performance, having in mind the endless code Drupal has to execute for simple tasks. But there's the caching mechanisms. etc.. anyway. But this is a great post! I tweet it <a href="http://twitter.com/valeryk" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

Marc, I would first filter by age since you know that is going to result in fewer rows to search than a binary, m/f search. Once you've narrowed the fields down as much as you can then apply the filters.

select?q=40&qf=age&fq=gender:male

SOLR 1.4 actually comes with a bunch of new filtering improvements where they apply filters during the query process. In this simple case it might do it for you in the background but I can't be positive. Benchmark it both ways and see what happens.

Interesting read.
How would you create a query with more than one element in this fashion?
e.g. you want to find every male person with the age 40

with the old query:
select?q=+&fq=gender:male AND age:40

with the new query:
???

Thanks,
Marc
